2017 Range Rover Evoque.. Convertible?

By: Nick S.

While most people sit back and think "what in god's name was Land Rover thinking?", I marvel at the fact that many people will be purchasing something like this simply because, well, it's a Range Rover. However, I'd like to at least analyze it for what it is before totally turning you off from going out on a limb and dropping $50,000 to pick one up for yourself.

Nissan tried the same damn thing with the Murano CrossCabriolet back in 2010 and it was described as a "beached whale wearing a fedora" that sells for almost as much as a BMW 5 series (take a look above). However, that whale forgot one thing that the Evoque bears on the front and rear: the Range Rover badge. If you can forget about the z-folding monstrosity that only succeeds in taking up trunk space, you'll notice that the 2017 Evoque utilizes "InControl Touch Pro", the latest generation infotainment system, and other features such as the 10.2 inch touch screen and the most advanced roll-over protection system behind the rear seats that deploys 90 milliseconds after a rollover is detected.

Under the hood, the Evoque still sports the 2.0L EcoBoost i4 petrol option or the more popular 2.2L Duratorq i4 diesel option, which can get you 56.5 mpg. It sports all the luxury of the 4-seat, leather interior AND the convertible roof for summer while still maintaining the rigidity of its non-convertible predecessor, and the ruggedness guaranteed for off-roading and trudging through 20 inches of water. Anything I missed can be found in this video review below:

Personally, I enjoy witnessing one of the leaders of the automobile industry pioneer its way into the jalopnik of the internet, even if it is in a humorous way. And, if you're thinking about purchasing, I suggest considering your needs very closely before making a commitment. But all around, the 2017 Range Rover Evoque is still practical, even if you'll hit your knees on those crammed family vacations. Of course, it wouldn't be complete without the convenience of the popular ski hatch that allows for easy transportation of those skis that you swore you would use..
